Bodega Arzuaga Navarro

Aranda de Duero sits at the heart of Ribera del Duero, one of Spain's most celebrated wine regions, and Arzuaga Navarro is among its most storied estates. A visit here combines barrel-aged Tempranillo with sweeping vineyard views that turn amber and gold every October.

The Wine & the Cellar

Arzuaga's underground bodega holds thousands of barrels of Crianza, Reserva and Gran Reserva wines, each drawing character from the chalky clay soils of the Duero plateau. Guided cellar tours walk you past the barrel rooms before ending at a tasting table where you compare vintages side by side.

The estate's flagship Gran Arzuaga is worth seeking out: dark cherry, tobacco and a finish that lingers long enough to make you book a second glass. Staff are unhurried and genuinely passionate, happy to explain the difference between a Ribera and a Rioja Tempranillo in plain terms.

Beyond the Glass

The bodega also runs a small luxury hotel and a restaurant, La Lobera de Arzuaga, where roast suckling lamb arrives straight from a wood-fired horno. Pairing a rack of lechazo with a Reserva from the same estate is one of those rare moments when food and wine feel genuinely inseparable.

Even if you skip the meal, the sculpture garden and the on-site spa make the 10-minute drive from Aranda town worthwhile. Book ahead for weekend tours, which fill up fast in autumn harvest season.
