Ziggo Dome & Johan Cruijff ArenA
Amsterdam-Zuidoost is home to two of the Netherlands' most electrifying entertainment venues sitting side by side, drawing millions of visitors for football, concerts and live spectacles every year. Even if you're not catching a show, the sheer scale and buzz of this entertainment district is worth the metro ride.
The ArenA Experience
Ajax's legendary home ground, the Johan Cruijff ArenA, holds over 54,000 fans and is one of the most technologically advanced stadiums in Europe, featuring a retractable roof and a pioneering battery storage system powered by used EV batteries. Stadium tours run regularly and take you pitchside, into the players' tunnel and through the trophy room — a must for any football fan.
Book a match-day ticket between August and May and you'll witness Dutch football passion at its most raw. The atmosphere during a top-flight Eredivisie game, with the south stand in full voice, is something that stays with you long after the final whistle.
Ziggo Dome & the ArenA Boulevard
Right next door, the circular Ziggo Dome is the Netherlands' premier indoor arena, hosting everyone from Beyoncé to massive electronic music events. Its acoustics and sightlines are genuinely excellent — there isn't a bad seat in the house.
The ArenA Boulevard linking the two venues is lined with sports bars, restaurants and fan stores. On event nights it transforms into a carnival of colour; on quieter afternoons it's a relaxed place to grab a Dutch beer and watch the world go by.
