A'DAM Lookout
Perched on the roof of the A'DAM Tower just across the IJ waterway from Centraal Station, A'DAM Lookout delivers a 360-degree panorama over Amsterdam's canal rings, the Ij harbour and the flat green polder landscape beyond. The open-air deck also hosts Europe's highest swing — dangling you out over a sheer drop with the entire city at your feet.
The View and the Swing
On a clear day the view from the 21st floor stretches past the Westerkerk tower and the Rijksmuseum all the way to the windmills of the Zaan region on the horizon. The indoor observation deck is fully glazed for windier days, but the outdoor terrace is where the real drama happens.
The Over the Edge swing is an optional add-on that propels you out beyond the building's edge at 100 metres above ground. It is genuinely terrifying and genuinely exhilarating — book it separately when buying your lookout ticket online.
Getting There and Timing Your Visit
A free two-minute ferry (Buiksloterweg) departs from the pontoons directly behind Amsterdam Centraal every few minutes and drops you almost at the tower's front door — the ferry crossing itself is a lovely mini-harbour moment.
Sunset is the prime slot: the low light turns the canal water gold and the city's twinkling bridge lamps begin to appear. Book the last entry slot of the day and linger until after dark for the full effect.
