The stalls overflow with fruits that rarely leave the Amazon: cupuaçu, bacuri and taperebá sit alongside enormous pirarucu fillets and live catfish from the Xingu. Vendors slice open fruit on the spot so you can taste before you buy — a generosity that makes browsing feel like a tasting menu.
Look for the medicinal herb section, where bundles of roots, barks and dried leaves are sold by healers who learned their craft from indigenous communities. A small bottle of andiroba oil or copaíba resin makes one of the most authentic souvenirs you can carry home.

Tuck a jar of Brazil nuts, a bottle of tucupi (the sharp, fermented wild-manioc broth used in classic Amazonian cooking) or a flask of cachaça de jambu into your bag.
