Parque de los Castillos
Named after the medieval fortifications whose stone remnants still punctuate the landscape, Parque de los Castillos is Alcorcón's green lung — a sprawling park where history, sculpture and nature overlap in an unexpectedly cinematic setting. On weekends it fills with families, joggers and picnickers who treat it as their own private countryside.
History Hidden in the Hillside
The park takes its name from the remains of a medieval watchtower system that once guarded the road between Toledo and Madrid. The preserved ruins sit on a low ridge, giving you a genuine sense of the strategic landscape that shaped this part of Castile centuries ago.
Interpretive panels in Spanish explain the archaeological context, and the earthworks around the ruins have been carefully landscaped so you can walk right up to the stonework without barriers getting in the way.
A Park for Every Pace
Flat, well-maintained paths wind through pine groves and past ornamental ponds, making the park equally suited to a brisk 5 km run or a slow afternoon with a book and a bocadillo. Several of the open-air sculptures from the city's permanent collection are installed here, turning a simple walk into an impromptu gallery visit.
In spring the wildflower meadows on the southern edge bloom with poppies and chamomile, producing some of the most photogenic scenery in the entire Madrid metropolitan area.
