Museo de Escultura al Aire Libre de Alcorcón
Alcorcón quietly hosts one of the most ambitious open-air sculpture collections in the Madrid region, with monumental works by internationally recognised artists scattered across the city's parks and plazas. Strolling between pieces feels like wandering through a living gallery with no admission fee and no closing time.
A City-Wide Canvas
More than 50 large-scale sculptures are permanently installed across Alcorcón's public spaces, representing artists from Spain, Latin America and beyond. Each piece is anchored in a specific urban or green setting, so the surrounding architecture and trees become part of the composition.
The collection grew steadily from the 1980s onwards as the city invested in public art as a form of civic identity — a bold move for a working-class suburb that was still finding its feet after rapid post-Franco growth.
Planning Your Route
The most concentrated cluster sits around the Parque de los Castillos and the central Avenida de Leganés, making a self-guided loop of roughly 3 km very manageable on foot. Pick up a printed map at the Oficina de Turismo on Calle Mayor or download the route from the Alcorcón city council website before you go.
Early morning light turns the metal and stone surfaces golden and the streets are quiet enough to photograph each piece without crowds in the frame.
