Belvedere Trulli Viewpoint, Via Indipendenza
The free public terrace on Via Indipendenza, locally called the Belvedere, delivers the postcard panorama of Alberobello: a sea of pointed grey cones rolling across the valley with the Basilica dei Santi Medici Cosma e Damiano rising above them. It is the single best spot in town to photograph the full scale of the trulli landscape in one sweeping frame.
Getting the Shot
The Belvedere sits on the ridge of Aia Piccola, directly opposite Rione Monti, giving you an elevated, unobstructed sightline across the valley. Arrive at sunrise for a soft pink sky behind the basilica dome, or at blue hour after sunset when a handful of trulli glow with warm interior light.
A standard 24–35 mm lens captures the full panorama comfortably; a longer focal length (85–135 mm) lets you compress the rooftops into a dense, dramatic pattern. Both work — choose your story.
What Else Is Nearby
The terrace is a 3-minute walk from the Trullo Sovrano, Alberobello's only two-storey trullo (now a museum), on Piazza Sacramento — combine both stops in a single 30-minute loop.
A small bar directly behind the viewpoint serves granita di mandorla (almond granita) and cold Peroni from 7 am, making it an excellent breakfast perch before the heat builds.
