Spiaggia di Cetara
The beach at Cetara is only about 90 metres of sand and pebbles, but it carries the particular weight of a place where fishing has been serious work for centuries. Nets were dried here, boats hauled up for winter on grooved wooden runners called falanghe, and the whole village turned its face to this strip of shore.
Today the Torre di Cetara — a layered 14th-century watchtower — anchors the eastern end, and pastel houses in pink, yellow, and white press close on every other side. The beach faces south-east, which means afternoon sun stays with you longer than you might expect on this coastline.

People who come back tend to arrive early, before the paid sunbeds fill up, and stake a spot on the free pebble section near the tower. Evening is worth staying for: the lampara fishing boats leave the port just after dark, their lights strung low over the water, and the church dome on the hill catches the last of the light in green and yellow majolica.
The story behind Spiaggia di Cetara
The beach's present shape is partly accidental. The construction of Cetara's port altered the marine currents, and rubble from reconstruction after the 1980 earthquake was used to extend the shoreline — so the sand you walk on is younger than it looks.
The town itself has older scars. In 879 AD, Saracen pirates chose Cetara as a base for raids along the Amalfi Coast, and in 1543 a Turkish attack left the settlement largely abandoned. The watchtower at the beach's edge is a remnant of that defensive period, built in layers, the cylindrical section nearest the sea being the oldest. A small free museum occupies its base, open mornings in season.
Good to know
Take the SITA bus or the Travelmar ferry from Salerno — parking in summer is genuinely scarce, and the village centre closes to non-resident traffic once the car park fills. Mid-October is a good window: the water is still warm, the crowds thin, and the town returns to itself.
May through October is the comfortable window — July brings up to 320 hours of sunshine and sea temperatures around 26–28°C. The shoulder months of May and October offer warm days without the peak-summer crowds; January and February are cold, wet, and often windy.

Beach was excellent. Water clear and beach pebbles were not too bad. Rented parasols and chairs for €30 full day. Drinks were decently priced. A++
Terrible. Ugly, dirty. It's half of June, 30°C, and its still unprepared. Plastic garbage everywhere, no lido, no umbrellas, no seaters, no shower (for coins but looks like it doesn't work, and garbage everywhere) bar blasting music but looks like construction site with garbage everywhere, again. When asked if we can borrow them and put them by ourselves - 30 eur. The audacity. 10eur will be expensive. For this ugly garbage beach?! No place to swim and the sea is dirty. Sadly in Cetara there's no place/beach with at least some standard of developed country (toilets, showers, clean nice beach/lido). In center is small and full of noisy kids, this one is dirty, and the one behind port, there's nothing. For locals is probably enough, but for others is waste of money and time.
It was so amazing to visit this beach in Amalfi Coast. Good landscaping, view and bar service. But we were a bit worried about for falling rocks on the free beach.

Big dissapointment, middle of June, temperatures over 30°C already and the beach is full of garbage, it looks like buldozer went through it and there are no proper facilites. The entrance welcomes you with a storage full of junk. And the price for an umbrella and two lounge chairs is ridicullous 30 EUR...if they would maintain the beach properly I would be happy to pay it, but this way NAH, go somewhere else.
