Lemon Groves of Minori
In May, the terraced groves above Minori are heavy with white blossoms, and the scent reaches you before the trees do — something between soap and sweetness that the wind carries all the way down to the harbor. The lemons here grow on pergolas of chestnut wood, their roots fed by spring water routed through stone channels cut into the cliff face centuries ago. Every terrace is a small world, enclosed by dry stone walls and reached by steep staircases narrow enough that workers once carried the harvest up and down on their shoulders.
Minori's groves are working orchards, not ornamental gardens. The fruit is picked by hand between February and October, and the village of Torre, where the Sentiero dei Limoni begins its climb toward Maiori, has organized its life around lemon cultivation for generations.

People who come back tend to time it for May, when the blossoms are open and the smell is at its peak. Wear proper trekking shoes — the stairways between terraces are uneven and steep. If you can, go in the morning before tour groups arrive from Amalfi; the quiet on the terraces is worth the early start.
The story behind Lemon Groves of Minori
Lemon cultivation arrived on the Amalfi Coast in the eleventh century, and by the 1400s Minori was trading its fruit with ports across Italy and northern Europe. The trade shaped the physical landscape: terraces were carved into near-vertical slopes, held in place by dry stone walls and irrigated by a network of cisterns and channels drawing from high mountain springs.
Production was organized along clear lines — men tended the trees and selected the fruit, while women carried the harvest down through the terraces. Fishermen then transferred the lemons to larger ships anchored offshore, each lemon counted and sold individually. The Path of the Lemons, which runs from Torre through to Maiori, was the only land route between the two towns before the coastal road was built.

SITA buses run between Salerno and Amalfi with a stop in Minori; from Amalfi, it's about 15 minutes. Travelmar ferries operate from April onward. Tour operators vary in what they offer and when; check directly for current hours and pricing. Wear shoes with grip.
The harvest runs from February to October, but May is the most atmospheric month to visit, when the trees are flowering and the air is thick with blossom scent. Summer temperatures on the terraces can push above 30°C with little shade, so mornings are kinder; November brings heavy rain and most tour activity winds down.

Took the trail from Minori to Maiori. Judging by the prior reviews, I expected the trail to be more challenging, however it wasn’t too bad at all. 95% of the uphill stairs are concentrated towards the start of the trail. This walk took us under an hour. We expected stops along the way to try some lemon granita and visit the lemon farms, however all of those stops were closed given that the timing. We did this walk around 3 pm which is right in the middle of the Italian Siesta. That said, would highly recommend the path as it does offer some great views along the way.
I went up for the hike without high expectations, but it turned out to be a lovely walk. The coastal views and lemon groves along the way were beautiful, and I enjoyed taking little breaks here and there. Around the middle of the trail, there was a small place selling homemade lemon cake and fresh lemonade, which made the hike even more enjoyable. It was the perfect little snack break!
This is a lovely hike on a paved path between Minori and Minori. The path is easier if you start in Minori as you avoid the the steep climb up the steps leading out of Maiori. Outstanding views of the lemon cover slopes as well as the towns and coastline. It is an easy walk alone the coast road between the two towns, but please be mindful of the traffic.
Walk from Maiori to Minori. Takes around an hour. Steep steps at start in Maiori. Wear sensible shoes, sun hat and water. Path quite steep in places but walkable for most people. Some lovely views. A few places to stop and rest.
This is a beautiful/ scenic walk/ hike. If you start in Maiori expect to go straight up hill for the first half. You can stop at the little restaurant at the halfway point and have some food/ drinks take a short break. Bring water and wear comfortable walking shoes and clothes. The view is worth it!
