Walking its long U-shaped corridors feels like flipping through the most beautiful art history book ever written.
What to prioritise inside
Start on the second floor with Room 10–14, the Botticelli halls — arrive when the museum opens to beat the crowds and stand in front of 'The Birth of Venus' in relative peace. The painting's pastel pinks and seafoam greens are far more luminous in person than any reproduction suggests.
Don't skip the Caravaggio rooms or the Titian portraits on the first floor. The rooftop loggia overlooking Piazza della Signoria is also worth a deliberate pause — the view of the Palazzo Vecchio tower framed against a Tuscan sky is unforgettable.
Practical tips for a smooth visit
Book timed-entry tickets on the official Uffizi website (uffizi.it) at least two weeks ahead in summer — walk-up queues can stretch to three hours. A 'Firenze Card' covers entry and is useful if you plan to visit multiple city museums in 72 hours.
Audio guides are available at the entrance for €6, but the free Rick Steves audio tour (downloaded before you arrive) is equally thorough and saves money. Plan for at least three hours; serious art lovers often spend a full day.
