Mirador del Risco de Famara
Perched at 479 metres above the Atlantic on the island's northern edge, the Mirador del Risco de Famara delivers a genuinely jaw-dropping panorama — a sheer basalt cliff face plunging to a wild, surf-lashed beach below, with the tiny island of La Graciosa floating on the horizon. It is a 40-minute drive from Puerto del Carmen but absolutely worth every kilometre.
The View
On a clear day — which is most days on Lanzarote — you can see the full sweep of Playa de Famara's four-kilometre beach, the salt flats of El Jable, and the protected marine reserve of the Chinijo Archipelago stretching north toward Fuerteventura.
The cliff edge is unfenced in places, so stay on the marked paths; the reward for doing so is an unobstructed perspective that no camera lens fully captures — the scale of the drop simply has to be experienced in person.
Getting There and Timing
Drive north on the LZ-1 toward Haría, then follow signs for Mirador del Risco; the final kilometre is a narrow road with passing places. Arrive before 09:00 or after 16:00 to avoid tour coaches and to catch the best light on the cliffs.
Combine the visit with a stop in the village of Haría, 15 minutes further inland — a green, palm-filled valley settlement that feels like a different island entirely, with a Saturday artisan market in the Plaza León y Castillo worth browsing.
