Positano Wednesday Morning Market
Every Wednesday morning a small but spirited open-air market unfolds along Via Cristoforo Colombo and the upper car park near the SITA bus stop, drawing locals from the surrounding hills as much as tourists. It is one of the few moments in summer when Positano feels like an actual Italian town rather than a film set.
What You'll Find
Produce stalls pile high with sfusato amalfitano lemons — the fat, fragrant variety protected by IGP status — alongside San Marzano tomatoes, bunches of wild oregano, and baskets of figs still warm from the tree. Prices are a fraction of what the waterfront shops charge, and the vendors are happy to let you taste before you buy.
Clothing stalls sell the hand-painted cotton and linen resort wear that Positano has been famous for since Jackie Kennedy wore a local sundress in the 1960s. Quality varies, so look for hand-stitched seams and ask whether the fabric is locally printed or imported.
How to Make the Most of It
Arrive before 09:00 for the best produce selection and to avoid the tour-bus crowds that descend after 10:30. Bring cash — most stalls don't accept cards — and a tote bag, as plastic bags are increasingly frowned upon.
After the market, walk five minutes downhill to Bar Internazionale on Piazza dei Mulini for a cornetto al limone and a standing espresso alongside the locals who have just done their weekly shop.
