The carbonnade flamande — beef slow-braised in dark northern ale with a slice of pain d'épices on top — is a textbook version of the dish, rich and deeply savoury. Pair it with a glass of Trois Monts from Saint-Sylvestre-Cappel and you have one of the best €18 lunches in the region.
For lighter appetites, the planche du Nord is a generous board of local charcuterie, pickled vegetables and Maroilles on toast that works perfectly as a shared starter before wandering back into the galleries.

The terrace facing the glass pavilion is the place to sit on a sunny day — the museum's mirror-like façade doubles the sky and the surrounding park, creating an almost surreal backdrop for a leisurely meal.
Service is unhurried and genuinely friendly; book a table for weekend lunch as the terrace fills quickly after the museum's midday rush. Weekday lunches are calm enough to linger over dessert — try the speculoos tart if it appears on the menu.
