Mercado Medieval de Guadalupe
Every year in late September or early October the Plaza Mayor and surrounding lanes of Guadalupe transform into a roaring medieval market, filling the air with woodsmoke, hammered copper and the sound of period music. It is one of the most atmospheric medieval fairs in Extremadura, drawing artisans and food producers from across the region.
Stalls, Crafts and Local Flavour
Expect stalls selling hand-tooled leather goods, wrought-iron work, beeswax candles and locally woven textiles — many crafts that have been produced in this valley for centuries.
Food vendors dish out migas extremeñas (fried breadcrumbs with chorizo and peppers), roasted chestnuts and tortas de aceite straight from wood-fired ovens, giving you a genuine taste of the region alongside the spectacle.
Beyond the Market Dates
Outside festival season, the permanent craft shops lining Calle Convento and the streets radiating from the Plaza Mayor still stock quality local ceramics, paprika (pimentón de la Vera is nearby), honey and the monastery's own liqueurs.
The Plaza Mayor itself — framed by a 15th-century porticoed arcade — is worth lingering in any day of the year; grab a coffee at one of the terrace bars and watch village life unfold against the monastery façade.
