Croix de Demi-Quartier Summit Cross
Perched above the rooftops of Demi-Quartier, the wooden summit cross rewards a short uphill walk with a jaw-dropping 180-degree sweep of the Mont Blanc massif, the Aravis range and the Megève valley below. On a clear morning the glaciers of the Bionnassay and the Dôme du Goûter glow a blinding white against cobalt sky.
The Walk Up
The trail departs from the village centre near the church of Saint-Nicolas and climbs through fragrant pine and larch forest for roughly 45 minutes at a gentle gradient suitable for families and older walkers.
Stone-carved waymarks keep you on track, and small clearings along the path offer teaser views of the Megève ski domain that build anticipation for the summit reveal.
What You See at the Top
From the cross itself you can identify Mont Blanc (4,808 m) due south, the Aiguille de Warens to the east, and on exceptional days the Grand Combin in Switzerland floating above the horizon.
A wooden orientation table installed by the local commune names every peak, making it an impromptu geography lesson as well as a photo opportunity.
Timing Your Visit
Arrive before 9 a.m. in summer to catch alpenglow on the glaciers and beat the valley heat — temperatures at the cross sit a reliable 5 °C below Megève town.
In winter the path is occasionally snow-packed; microspikes are recommended from December to March.
