Loboc River Cruise, Loboc
Gliding along the jade-green Loboc River on a flat-bottomed floating restaurant while a live band plays folk songs and rainforest canopy arches overhead — this is Bohol at its most languid and lovely. It's touristy, yes, but it earns every visitor it gets.
The cruise experience
Boats depart from the Loboc River Tourism Association dock, just beside the 17th-century St Peter the Apostle Parish Church, and drift downstream for roughly 45 minutes before turning back — a round trip of about 8 km through dense riverine forest.
A buffet of Filipino dishes (grilled fish, pancit, rice, fresh fruit) is served on board while local musicians play kundiman ballads and contemporary OPM hits. Some boats include a cultural dance performance by Ati indigenous community members at a riverside stop.
Beyond the main cruise
After the cruise, walk five minutes upstream to the Busay Falls — a modest but photogenic cascade where you can wade in the cool water and escape the boat-tour crowd entirely.
The town of Loboc itself is worth 30 minutes on foot: the coral-stone church is one of the oldest in the Philippines and its sacristy houses centuries-old religious artefacts rarely mentioned in guidebooks.
