Kom Summit (508 m) Panorama Trail
Blato's highest peak, Kom, rises to 508 metres above the olive groves and rewards a forest hike with a panorama that sweeps from Lastovo and Vis to Hvar and the Pelješac peninsula — essentially the entire southern Adriatic laid out like a map. On a clear morning, it is one of the finest views in Croatia.
The Hike Up
The trail to Kom Summit is well-marked and mostly shaded by pine and holm-oak forest, making it manageable even in summer if you set off early. The path passes an interesting cave just below the peak — worth a brief detour before the final push to the top.
The full circuit from Blato takes roughly two to three hours at a relaxed pace. Wear proper shoes; the limestone path is uneven in sections. Bring water, as there are no facilities on the trail.
The View and What It Reveals
From the summit cairn, the geometry of Korčula becomes suddenly clear: the island's spine of dense forest, the patchwork of vineyards and olive groves dropping to turquoise bays on both the north and south coasts, and the scatter of outer islands fading into haze. On the clearest days in spring and autumn, you can count the peaks of the Biokovo range on the mainland.
Sunrise and late afternoon are the best times — the low light turns the sea copper and the islands go dark blue against a pink sky. Photographers should plan for the golden hour.
