Boronia Beach Walk to Baronia Beach
A Grade 2 coastal walk from Blackmans Bay threads through blue gum forest and coastal headland before dropping you onto Baronia Beach — a tucked-away cove of towering sandstone cliffs and crystal-clear water where weedy sea dragons hide in the shallows.
Through the Bush to the Cliff Edge
The trail is just 2 kilometres one-way and rated suitable for most walkers, following a well-defined, mostly flat path that meanders between fragrant blue gum forest and open coastal scrub. The contrast between the dark canopy and sudden ocean views is one of those small, perfect surprises that Tasmania does so well.
Birdlife is abundant along the route — listen for the liquid whistle of the grey shrike-thrush and keep an eye on the canopy for swift parrots if you are visiting in spring or summer.
Baronia Beach: Worth Every Step
Baronia Beach itself is tucked behind a cliff and crowned by tall trees, giving it a feeling of genuine isolation even though it is only a short walk from the suburbs. The sandstone cliffs tower above a pebbly shore and the water is clear enough to see the rocky bottom in detail.
Bring a snorkel — the shallows can reveal weedy sea dragons drifting among the kelp, one of Australia's most otherworldly marine creatures. There are steps down to the beach at the end of the track, so be prepared for a short but steep descent.
