Cap de Formentor Lighthouse Viewpoint
At the very tip of Mallorca's Formentor Peninsula, a winding 20-km road delivers you to a lighthouse perched 210 metres above a sea so blue it looks artificially lit. On a clear day you can see Menorca on the horizon — and on every day, you'll understand why this is the island's most photographed spot.
The Drive Up
The MA-2210 road to the cape is a white-knuckle ribbon of hairpin bends carved into limestone cliffs, with pull-offs that reveal sheer drops into turquoise coves far below — Cala Figuera and Cala Murta are visible only from above.
Between June and September private vehicles are restricted; a shuttle bus runs from Port de Pollença (€10 return, roughly every 30 minutes) making the journey stress-free and greener.
At the Lighthouse
The 1863 lighthouse itself is not open to visitors, but the viewing terrace beside it is the payoff: sheer cliffs plunging into the Tramuntana-blue Mediterranean, with the jagged rock stacks of Es Colomer visible to the west.
Sunrise and late afternoon are the magic hours — the limestone turns amber-pink and the sea shifts from turquoise to deep violet. Bring a jacket; the cape is almost always windy.
