Schliffkopf Summit Panorama

At 1,055 m the Schliffkopf is the highest point easily accessible by car along the Schwarzwaldhochstraße, and on a clear day the panorama stretches from the Rhine plain all the way to the Vosges mountains in France. The summit hotel and its wraparound terrace make this one of the most rewarding viewpoints in the entire northern Black Forest.

The View and the Walk

From the Schliffkopf car park a short 10-minute path climbs through dwarf pines and open heath to the true summit. The 360-degree horizon is interrupted by nothing but rolling forest ridges and, to the west, the glittering ribbon of the Rhine on a sunny afternoon.

Several longer hiking loops depart from the summit, including a 7 km ridge walk south toward the Ruhestein that keeps you above the treeline for much of the route — rare in the Black Forest and absolutely worth the extra hour.

Schliffkopf Hotel and Terrace

The Naturhotel Schliffkopf, right at the summit, has a panoramic terrace restaurant serving regional dishes and cold-pressed Black Forest fruit juices. It's a perfect lunch stop before or after the short summit hike.

In winter the area transforms: the hotel runs cross-country ski trails directly from the door, and snowshoe hire is available for guided tours through the snow-blanketed spruce forest.
