Mirador del Fito
From a single roadside platform in the Sueve mountain range, the Mirador del Fito delivers one of the most startling panoramas in northern Spain: the Cantabrian Sea glittering to the north, the green patchwork of Asturian farmland below, and the snow-streaked peaks of Picos de Europa looming to the south. It costs nothing and takes five minutes.
The View & When to Go
The mirador sits at 595 m on the AS-260 road between Arriondas and Colunga. On a clear day — most common in May, June and September — you can see the entire arc of the Asturian coast from Cabo de Peñas in the west to the cliffs of Llanes in the east, with the Picos rising dramatically behind. It's the kind of view that makes you reach for your phone and immediately realise no photo will do it justice.
Sunrise is spectacular here: the sea turns rose-gold while the mountain peaks catch the first light. The car park holds about 20 vehicles; arrive before 08:00 in summer to guarantee a spot and have the platform to yourself.
Getting There & Combining with Nearby Stops
The mirador is 8 km from Arriondas (the rafting capital of Asturias) and 12 km from the coastal town of Colunga, making it an easy stop on a drive along the A-8 coastal motorway. A short detour up the AS-260 is all it takes — the road is narrow but paved and manageable in a standard car.
Combine the visit with a stop in Colunga to see the Jurassic Coast dinosaur footprints at the Museo del Jurásico de Asturias (MUJA), then drive west along the N-632 coastal road through Villaviciosa — Asturias's cider-apple capital — for a perfect half-day loop.
