Terminal Asoagro & Terminal Pesquero

Two markets, five minutes apart, and together they tell the whole story of Arica's larder. Terminal Asoagro on Panamericana Norte is where Andean highland vendors in colourful clothing sell passion fruit, mangoes and the legendary Azapa olives; Terminal Pesquero, down by the port, is where fishermen unload the morning catch and tiny kitchens turn it into ceviche before 9 am.

Terminal Asoagro — Colours of the Altiplano

This produce market is the best single place in Arica to buy emblematic regional products: Azapa olives, fresh passion fruit, mango, and Azapa peppers. The vendors include members of highland Aymara communities, recognisable by their vivid woven textiles, who bring produce down from the altiplano and the valley floors.

Arrive on a weekday morning for the widest selection and the most relaxed atmosphere. Prices are among the lowest in the country for fresh fruit and vegetables, and vendors are happy to let you taste before you buy.

Terminal Pesquero — Ceviche at Dawn

The fish market hugs the working port and operates at its liveliest between 7 am and noon, when the catch is literally still glistening. Half a dozen no-frills comedores line the back wall, each serving ceviche of reineta or corvina cured in lemon, topped with choclo and sweet potato, for as little as USD 1–2 a bowl.

Order a bowl, grab a plastic stool, and eat while pelicans jostle on the dock outside. It is one of the most authentic and affordable meals you will have anywhere in Chile.
