Le Dahu Restaurant, Argentière

Tucked at the foot of the village on Route du Plagnolet, Le Dahu is the kind of Savoyard mountain restaurant that feels earned rather than manufactured — low pine ceilings, a roaring fire in winter, and a menu built around local cheese, cured meats from the Vallée de Chamonix, and beef from the Charolais herds of neighbouring Haute-Savoie. The tartiflette alone is worth the drive up from Chamonix.

What to Order

The raclette for two arrives on a dedicated tabletop grill, accompanied by cornichons, charcuterie and boiled Ratte potatoes from the Savoie — simple, honest and deeply satisfying after a morning on the mountain. In summer, the terrace faces directly toward the Aiguille du Chardonnet, so you eat with a 4,000-metre backdrop.

For dessert, the tarte aux myrtilles (wild blueberry tart) uses berries picked from the slopes above the village and served warm with crème fraîche. It is available only in late July through August when the berries are in season — order it if you see it.

Booking & Atmosphere

Le Dahu fills quickly on powder days and during the August peak; reservations by phone (+33 4 50 54 01 55) or via their website are strongly recommended for dinner. Lunch service is slightly more relaxed and often easier to walk into.

The wine list leans heavily on Savoie appellations — look for a glass of Apremont or Chignin-Bergeron, crisp whites that cut through the richness of melted cheese beautifully. The staff are used to multilingual guests and menus are available in English.
