Arezzo Antiques Fair (Fiera Antiquaria di Arezzo)

On the first Sunday of every month — and the Saturday before it — more than 500 stalls spill across Piazza Grande and the surrounding medieval streets, turning the whole historic centre into a treasure-hunter's paradise. This is the oldest antiques market in Italy, founded by collector Ivan Bruschi in 1968, and it still draws serious dealers alongside curious day-trippers.

What You'll Find

Expect everything from Roman bronze fragments and Baroque oil paintings to mid-century Murano glass, Liberty-style jewellery, vintage Campari posters and battered leather-bound atlases. Quality is genuinely high — many Florentine interior designers shop here rather than in Florence.

The stalls closest to the loggia of Vasari's Palazzo delle Logge tend to carry the priciest silverware and furniture; wander the back alleys off Via dei Pileati for more affordable ceramics, prints and curiosities.

Practical Tips for Market Day

Arrive by 08:00 if you want first pick and cooler temperatures — the piazza faces south and bakes by midday in July and August. Cash is still king for smaller purchases, though many dealers now accept cards.

The Saturday set-up day is a genuine insider secret: dealers are still arranging stock, prices are occasionally more negotiable, and the crowds are a fraction of Sunday's. Pair the market with an espresso at the historic Caffè dei Costanti on Piazza San Francesco, open since 1860.
