Restaurante Casa Corro
A Alcantarilla institution for well over three decades, Casa Corro has built its reputation on the kind of arroz caldoso and caldero del Mar Menor that Murcian grandmothers recognise as the real thing — deeply flavoured, properly rested and served without ceremony in a tiled dining room that fills fast on Sunday lunchtimes. If you eat one proper meal in the town, make it here.
What to order
The arroz con conejo y caracoles — rice with rabbit and local snails braised in a sofrito of ñora pepper and saffron — is the dish that regulars drive across the region for. It arrives in the traditional wide paella pan, the socarrat crust crackling at the edges, and it needs nothing beyond a glass of cold Jumilla monastrell rosé.
For a lighter start, the ensalada murciana (a composed salad of salted tuna, roasted peppers, tomato and black olives dressed in local olive oil) is a textbook version and far better than most you'll find in Murcia city restaurants at twice the price.
Practical details
Casa Corro is located on Avenida de Murcia, the main artery running northeast through town, roughly a 12-minute walk from the railway station. The dining room seats around 60 and reservations are strongly recommended for Sunday lunch — call ahead on a Thursday or Friday.
The lunch menu del día (Monday–Friday) runs to three courses with wine for around €12–14, representing extraordinary value for the quality of cooking on offer. Evening service is à la carte and slightly more expensive.
