Dawn Hot-Air Balloon over the Theban Necropolis
Nothing reframes the scale of Al-Qurna and the West Bank like seeing it from 300 metres in the air at first light. As the balloon lifts off from a field near the Nile, the entire Theban Necropolis unfolds below you — temples, tomb-pocked hills, sugar-cane fields, and the silver ribbon of the Nile — all bathed in the deep gold of an Egyptian sunrise.
The Flight Itself
Hot-air ballooning launches from the West Bank of Luxor, typically between 5:00 and 6:00 AM, timed to catch the sunrise over the necropolis. The rising sun engulfs the tawny sandstone hills in deep golden shades, and somewhere below, the Valley of the Kings lies quiet before the day-trippers arrive.
A standard flight lasts around 45 minutes and covers the sweep from the Valley of the Queens across to the Ramesseum and Medinat Habu, giving you a spatial understanding of the entire West Bank that no map or ground-level visit can replicate. Most operators include hotel pickup, a chase vehicle landing, and a certificate.

Flights are weather-dependent and can be cancelled on windy mornings; reputable operators will reschedule or refund without fuss. Wear layers — it is significantly cooler at altitude than on the ground, even in summer.
