Sunday Salsa at Madam's Organ

Madam's Organ is the most iconic bar in Adams Morgan — a rambling, mural-covered, neon-lit institution that has been pouring drinks and hosting live music since 1992. Its Sunday salsa nights draw a genuinely mixed crowd of seasoned dancers and cheerful beginners, and the energy is infectious whether you know the steps or not.

The Bar Itself

The building is hard to miss: a giant redhead mural covers the entire exterior facade, and the interior is a glorious clutter of vintage signs, taxidermy, mismatched furniture and a stage that has hosted blues, soul, reggae and Latin bands for three decades.

Three floors of bar space mean there is always a corner to find, whether you want to be in the thick of the dancing or watching from the mezzanine with a cold Tecate.

The Salsa Night Experience

Sunday salsa runs from around 9 p.m. with a live band; the dance floor fills fast and the crowd is welcoming to newcomers — experienced dancers are generally happy to lead a first-timer through the basics.

Arrive by 8:30 p.m. to get a table; the bar gets packed by 10 p.m. and the energy peaks around midnight when the band is in full swing.
