Dylans Restaurant Aberdyfi
Dylan's in Aberdyfi occupies a beautifully converted building right on the waterfront and has become one of the most celebrated seafood restaurants in mid-Wales since opening its doors here. The kitchen leans hard into the local larder — Cardigan Bay crab, hand-dived scallops and Dyfi mussels appear on a menu that changes with the tides and the seasons.
What to Order
The Cardigan Bay crab sandwich — dressed white and brown meat on toasted sourdough with a smear of saffron aioli — is a lunchtime institution and worth the trip alone. For dinner, the whole grilled sea bass with laverbread butter is a masterclass in letting exceptional Welsh ingredients speak for themselves.
The wine list is thoughtful and longer than you'd expect for a coastal village, with several options available by the glass. The Welsh craft beer and cider selection is equally strong — try anything from Snowdonia Brewery alongside your fish.
Atmosphere and Booking
Inside, the space is bright and unfussy — pale wood, large windows framing the estuary, and the kind of relaxed hum that tells you the kitchen is confident. In summer the outdoor terrace fills fast and the combination of fresh seafood, salt air and estuary views makes for a near-perfect Welsh lunch.
Dylan's is genuinely popular and reservations are strongly recommended for Friday and Saturday evenings between June and September. Walk-ins at lunch on weekdays are usually possible, and the bar area operates a first-come, first-served policy.
