Punta Bonfiglio, Manarola
Punta Bonfiglio is the rocky headland that closes off the southern edge of Manarola, and from up here the village finally makes sense — the stacked coloured houses, the small harbor below, the cliffs dropping straight into the Ligurian Sea. A ruined chapel sits quietly at the top, once used by farmers as a shelter. Below it, the terrace of Nessun Dorma wine bar clings to the rock face, where you can sit with a glass of local Sciacchetrà and watch the light change over the water.
The path that circles the headland, Via dei Giovanni, leads down to swimming rocks and eventually connects toward Corniglia. It's one of those places where the walk itself is the point.

People who come back tend to time it for late afternoon, when the golden hour hits the painted facades at an angle you don't get from the harbor. Nessun Dorma fills up fast, so arrive early or be patient. The swimming cove behind the headland — the Palaedo — stays relatively quiet even when the village is not.
The story behind Punta Bonfiglio, Manarola
Manarola itself traces back to the 12th century, when people from the Roman-era hilltop settlement of Volastra began moving down to the sea. The village appears in records from 1261, and for a time fell under the influence of the Lords of Carpena and the Fieschi family before Genoa absorbed it in 1276.
Punta Bonfiglio's own past is quieter and less documented. The ruined chapel at the top served local farmers as a working shelter — a practical, unglamorous history that fits the headland's character. The Cinque Terre coastline, including Manarola, became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997.

Walk up from Manarola's train station or harbor in around 10–15 minutes on a paved, gently inclined path. Entry to the viewpoint is free. May to early June and September to October offer the most comfortable temperatures and thinner crowds. The Cinque Terre Card is not required here.
Late spring and early autumn are the most reliable windows — temperatures between 16 and 22°C, manageable light, and fewer people on the path. Summer is hot and crowded; October brings the most rainfall, though showers tend to be short. In winter the headland is almost empty, the sea loud, and the air cold but clear.

**Absolute must-do in Cinque Terre** If you are visiting Manarola, booking the pesto-making class at Nessun Dorma is a non-negotiable. It was easily the absolute highlight of our entire trip! The setting itself is breathtaking, perched right on the cliffside with panoramic views of the colorful village and the glittering sea below. But what truly makes this experience special is the team. They brought so much energy, passion, and genuine warmth to the class. We learned the traditional, authentic way to make pesto using a mortar and pestle, and the difference in taste is night and day compared to anything you get in a jar. Afterward, getting to sit down, enjoy the fruits of our labor, and feast on an incredible spread of local food and wine was pure perfection. The only real downside is knowing that no store-bought pesto will ever measure up again! Honestly, we are already talking about coming back to the Cinque Terre, and this class is the number one thing we want to repeat. It would be an absolute shame for it to not exist when we want to come back in the future, because it is a true local treasure. Thank you to the entire Nessun Dorma crew for an unforgettable morning. Do yourself a favor and book this immediately!
My wife and I had so much fun at the 2 hour long "pesto experience" pesto-making class. The setting on the cliffs of Manarola over the bay are absolutely breathtaking, the host and staff were so friendly and so much fun, the ingredients were so fresh, making pesto was fun, the food was great, and the wine was very tasty and free flowing. This experience made our day!
The view alone is worth a visit, but great drinks, great service, and charcuterie style lunch... Amazing! We meandered up the path to the viewpoint over Manarola and realized this restaurant was at the top. It was incredibly busy, for good reason. They're very well organized with seating guests and we didn't wait long. They were conscious to offer us a place out of the sun, which we were grateful for. After about 5 minutes at our seats, a waitress came over and asked if we'd prefer better seating with a nice view over the town, which we were also so grateful for! Highly recommend this special place if you're in Manarola.
There are two options when coming to this restaurant. Drinks only and you can sit near the edge looking over the stunning views. Drinks and food you can sit at the tables and also see the stunning views. The drinks are delicious and the boards are huge. We order the charcuterie with meats and cheeses also came with toast with pesto and bruschetta. Huge portions and very tasty.
We visited Nessun Dorma mainly because of all the hype online and the beautiful view, but honestly we found it a bit overrated. The location is definitely stunning, but the food and drink options are quite limited and the prices feel very high for what you get. To be honest, the best idea might simply be to buy your own drinks or snacks and sit on the benches just above the place, which have the exact same amazing view. This way you can fully enjoy the panorama of Manarola without spending around €60. Great spot for the scenery, but not necessarily for the overall experience.
