Playa Rincón, Samaná Peninsula
Consistently ranked among the Caribbean's most pristine stretches of sand, Playa Rincón curves for nearly three kilometres between jungle-draped headlands with no hotels in sight. The water shifts from turquoise shallows to deep sapphire, and the only soundtrack is waves and birdsong.
Getting There & First Impressions
The most atmospheric arrival is by lancha — a small wooden motorboat — from Las Galeras village, a 20-minute chug around the cape that rewards you with a cinematic reveal of the beach as you round the headland.
Once ashore, a handful of family-run beach shacks serve cold Presidente beer and freshly grilled fish, but bring cash and water because there are no ATMs and no crowds to compete with.
What to Do Once You Arrive
The western end of the beach is fed by the Río Frío, a cool freshwater river that trickles through palms into the sea — wade across it to reach the quietest, most deserted section of sand.
Snorkelling directly off the beach reveals sea fans and parrotfish in gin-clear water; the coral is healthier here than at most developed resort beaches on the island.
