Titop Island
The island you're approaching by boat has a crescent of white sand at its base and 450 stone steps climbing to a summit 110 metres above the water. From the top, the karst towers of Hạlong Bay spread out in every direction — limestone shapes disappearing into haze, the bay looking less like a body of water than a flooded mountain range.
A six-metre granite statue of a Soviet cosmonaut stands at the foot of the hill, which tells you something about this island's unlikely biography. Ti Tốp is not large, and most cruise itineraries give you an hour or two here — enough to swim, climb, and stand at the peak before the next stop.

People who've done the climb more than once tend to go early, before the tour boats stack up at the beach. The steps are steep but short — ten to fifteen minutes up — and the summit is narrow enough that timing matters. The beach volleyball court near the waterline is free; the small shop rents balls if you didn't bring one.
The story behind Titop Island
Before it had its current name, the island was known as Hồng Thập Tự — Red Cross Island — a reference to French sailors buried here after a cargo ship struck a reef and sank in 1905. For decades it carried that history quietly, one small island among thousands in the bay.
On 22 January 1962, President Hồ Chí Minh brought Soviet cosmonaut Gherman Titov here during a state visit. Titov had become, the previous year, the second human being to orbit the Earth. Hồ Chí Minh renamed the island in his honour that day. A granite statue of Titov was erected on the island in 2015, more than half a century after the visit that gave it his name.
Good to know
Titop is a stop on Route 2 cruise itineraries (250,000 VND per person, covering port and sightseeing fees). Day cruises run $30–$50; overnight options start around $120. Most visits are 1–2 hours. You won't find a standalone ticket or a direct ferry — book through a cruise operator.
Spring (February to April) and autumn (August to October) bring the clearest skies and most comfortable temperatures for the climb. Summer is hot and prone to afternoon storms; July and August carry the highest storm risk. Winter visits (November to January) are cooler and sometimes foggy, but the sea stays clear year-round.

This was part of the Halong Bay day cruise. The beach here is small but picturesque surrounded by limestone formations. The walk to the top is slightly difficult but the views are fantastic. You can climb as much as you can if not the whole way and still get to see beautiful views
One of the best spot in Vietnam, it’s one of the best spot for entire Halong Bay trip , 400 -450 stone steps, Disclaimer: Cruise Guide will say we can climb in 10 minutes but it will take minimum 12 minutes to 15 minutes, please wear proper shoes , usually it will be humid and you will reach in afternoon with sun on your head, it is tiring but once you reach at top you will say worth the same , best spot in Halong bay , 360 degree Paralympic view , honestly it will be always crowded and you need to be quick and request for quick pictures, at the top and around the stones you will get water and coconut but bit expensive if you are thirsty pls take it , my advise once you from from cruise drink water and come , the sea beech in bottom is awesome clear, clean and blue sea but usually it’s a small halt and you will not get time , the cruise will give you option to sit down at sea beach or go up , my suggestion go up , take cap , sunglasses and sun cream and claim up
One of the beautiful islands you can visit during your day visits of your Halong Bay cruise. Theres a man made beach as well. The same is soo fine and theres a small hike on to a hill and you can experience great views of Halong Bay and all cruises.

Indeed, Halong Bay tourism is very interesting. at tip top I didn't climb to the top but just enjoyed the natural scenery on the coast. eating jackfruit and ice cream and relaxing is very enjoyable. The water is very clear, the place is spacious and the view can make life's problems disappear instantly
