Longana
Longana sits on the eastern flank of Ambae, a volcanic island in Vanuatu's Penama Province, where the land tilts toward the Pacific and the nearest significant airport is a short domestic hop rather than a long-haul ordeal. The village is small enough that its airport code — LOD — is better known to island-hoppers than any street name. Penama's provincial headquarters at Saratamata lies in this same eastern corridor, which gives the area a quiet administrative weight that the landscape itself doesn't announce.
The provincial government has plans to grow Longana into something larger, a proper town rather than a village pause between flights. For now it exists in that particular in-between state: more than a waypoint, not yet a destination with a fixed shape.
